Head Coach - North Carolina: 1967-1977
Head Coach/Athletic Director - Virginia Tech: 1978-1986
Across his tenures with North Carolina and Virginia Tech, Dooley was one of the most common visitors to the Peach Bowl throughout its history, racking up four total appearances. His teams' strongest showing came in his final appearance in the bowl, when his Hokies eked out a 25-24 victory over fellow Peach Bowl regular Dick Sheridan and the NC State Wolfpack in the 1986 edition of the game. All told, Dooley was a three-time ACC Coach of the Year and captured three conference titles, all with North Carolina.Â
