Biography
Jim Dombrowski was born in Williamsville, NY. In 1963. He stayed in Williamsville his entire childhood and after a standout high school career at Williamsville High, he accepted an athletic scholarship to the University of Virginia to play on the offensive line under coach George Welsh. His team won the Peach Bowl over Purdue in 1984, and he was named a unanimous first-team All-American in 1985. On top of that, he was a two-time first-team All-ACC, and was routinely recognized for his combination of academic and athletic achievement. His number 73 jersey is retired by the university.
He entered the NFL draft in 1986 and was selected with the sixth overall pick by the New Orleans Saints, where he spent his entire 11-year career. He played left tackle and left guard for the Saints, playing in 151 games.
After his retirement, he was elected into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008.
