Cincinnati’s Tony Pike and Georgia’s Steve Greer to serve as honorary captains for the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on New Year’s Day

ATLANTA (Dec. 31, 2020) – In keeping with its tradition of recognizing notable team alumni, officials today announced that Tony Pike and Steve Greer will be honorary captains for their respective alma maters at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl between No. 9 Georgia and No. 8 Cincinnati.

Representing the Bearcats is former collegiate and NFL quarterback Tony Pike. Pike enrolled at Cincinnati in 2006, where he was named to ESPN's 2008 All-Mayday Team and First Team All-Big East Team during his collegiate career. In 2009, Pike led his team to a 12-0 regular season, second straight Big East title and an appearance in the 2010 Sugar Bowl. Pike was then drafted in the sixth round of the 2010 NFL draft by the Carolina Panthers. Following his NFL career, he worked as a sports broadcaster across both television and radio, currently serving as ESPN1530's afternoon co-host.

On the opposite sideline, two-time All-America defensive lineman Steve Greer will serve as honorary captain for the Bulldogs. Greer was a three-year starter from 1967-69, where he earned All-SEC first team honors, Atlanta Touchdown Club's award for Most Valuable Lineman in the SEC and was named a permanent team captain for the Bulldogs. During his Georgia career, he helped lead the team to the 1968 SEC championship and three bowl game appearances. Following a stint in the Canadian Football League, Greer began his coaching career at Auburn. He returned to Athens in 1979 as a defensive line coach, where he was part of the staff that led the Bulldogs to the 1980 national championship and three SEC titles. Greer then transitioned into football administration, where he was named director of football operations in 1996 until his retirement in 2009.

The 53rd annual Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl will be held at noon ET on New Year's Day at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The game will be nationally televised by ESPN.
